We tutor for the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and Multistate Performance Test (MPT).
We have fantastic outlines that are precisely tailored to exactly what you need to know to pass the UBE (this includes MBE outlines, MEE outlines, and an MPT guide and approach!). To see why our MEE outlines are the best, please read this post. We believe in an efficient approach to bar exam preparation. In addition to providing substantive law assistance, we also provide you with study techniques and habits to maximize your chances of passing the bar exam.
We have helped many first-time takers pass the UBE with points to spare! We have also helped repeat takers increase their score significantly.
Why should I enroll in private tutoring for the Uniform Bar Exam?
We offer multiple benefits:
- A study plan that is tailored to your needs and your schedule. We take into account all circumstances — i.e. past bar exam scores, whether you are working or have other obligations — to figure out the perfect study plan for you. If you meet with us for once-a-week tutoring, you will also receive a study plan each week to ensure you are on track.
- Stellar outlines that are precisely tailored to the MBE and MEE. We methodically go through the past 20 years’ worth of multistate essay exams and have formulated outlines that are precisely tailored to what is tested on the MEE. We also provide comprehensive outlines for the MBE. Many students say our outlines are “worth their weight in gold” and some students pay for tutoring for the primary reason of having access to well-organized, easy-to-learn, yet comprehensive outlines. (To read more about why our outlines are so good, and to see a sample of our MEE outlines, please see this post.)
- Multiple-choice strategies so that you see your scores improve through practice (rather than answering a bunch of questions and having your scores stay the same!). We will teach a methodical approach to the MBE so that you see improvement and increase your confidence.
- Individualized feedback, essay & MPT review. We provide unlimited review of essays an MPTs. We help you capitalize upon your strengths and improve your weaknesses. The written portion is worth 50% of your score so we make sure you are on track.
- MEE and MPT Strategies. We provide strategies to ensure you are structuring your essays for both the MEE and MPT in such a way to maximize the points you receive.
- Access to a tutor. Your tutor will answer any questions, provide feedback, and help relieve any anxiety.
- Accountability. Knowing that you are going to meet a tutor can keep you accountable and make sure you are on your game.
Can I use your private tutoring services for just the MBE, MEE or MPT?
Yes. We will structure our private tutoring program to meet your individual needs. We have several students who choose to meet with us for just one or two portions of the exam.
Some students meet us just once or twice to cover, for example, Real Property, and Contracts. If you opt for a limited number of sessions, we will be happy to send you outlines for the subjects we cover ahead of time as well as provide essay-feedback and to-do lists for the subjects assigned.
What do students say about your services?
We have a ton of testimonials here.
A few specific UBE testimonials are below:
I received my Bar results this past week: I passed! I have exchanged texts with Christine and I also left her a voicemail thanking her for her tutoring and getting me over the hump to pass the DC Bar. I just wanted to formally say thank you for your services. Christine is legit – a very competent and effective tutor. She was very professional and very effective with our tutoring sessions. Christine really made it simple and tactically guided me through the MPTs and MEEs so I could get enough points to pass. I think I remember her saying that no one she tutored ever failed the MPT/MEE portion and her streak is still alive – I passed! – February 2016 Bar Exam Taker
Thank you so much for your help Ashley!!!!!! I passed!!!! Christine was SO helpful. I can still hardly believe it!!! – February 2016 Bar Exam Taker
A few recent testimonial of JD Advising bar services are below:
The first time I sat for the Bar I used a commercial study course and felt that I wasn’t feeling properly focused. Rather, the scope of their course was so broad and intimidating that I was so lost. When it actually came to taking the exam I felt completely unprepared and it was as if the questions were in a completely different language. I failed on my first attempt and was devastated. All those gallons of coffee and countless hours studying seemed wasted. . . .
When I sat for the Bar after taking Ashley’s class, every question presented was familiar and I knew exactly how to confidently answer all of them. Hiring Ashley and her colleagues at JD Advising was hands down the best decision I made preparing for the Michigan Bar. As a true testament to Ashley’s abilities and effect, our class of all repeat takers had a 100% pass rate. I highly recommend Ashley and her team to anyone with their Bar prep – her results speak to her ability and success. -February 2016 Bar Exam Taker
When I failed the bar exam, I was completely and utterly devastated. I utilized a commercial bar prep course the first time around, which obviously did not adequately prepare me. The material that the course provided was overwhelming. Watching lectures, going from one subject to another daily, all the while, trying to do essays AND MBE questions had me frantic. I do not believe that taking a commercial bar course is for everyone, especially someone like me who needs to completely comprehend and absorb a subject before moving on to the next.
I had previously heard of Ashley from other students who had tutored with her and raved about her work. I knew she was the person to call. The same day I found out I failed, I contacted Ashley. She was so understanding, encouraging, and helpful.
I signed up for her course immediately. What I came to discover immediately about the course was that everything is concise, easy to follow, and efficient. Ashley provided us with only the relevant information and highly tested issues pertinent to the bar exam. She also would administer quizzes and essays weekly, which helped immensely. Ashley was always available was when I had questions or difficulties. I would e-mail her constantly and her responses were always prompt and helpful.
I did not have to read extraneous material like I did with the commercial bar course. I did not have to spend as many hours as I did previously studying for the bar exam because I was understanding and absorbing the law much more clearly with her curriculum. I did not feel stressed or worried because she was always available to explain and go over issues.
I cannot recommend Ashley enough. Not only is she a great tutor, but she has become a great friend of mine. Failing the bar is probably one of the most disheartening experiences to occur to a law student. However, Ashley’s positivity and enthusiasm truly helped me get through this difficult period. She helped me to realize that this failure was just a roadblock to success. I am proud to say that I increased my score 29 points and received a 160 (95th percentile!) on the bar exam. I am so thankful for meeting Ashley. She is the best at what she does! –February 2016 bar taker
Which states administer the UBE, MEE, and MPT?
For the July 2016 bar exam administration, the following jurisdictions will administer the UBE, MEE, and MPT:
UBE: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine (beginning July 2017), Massachusetts (beginning July 2018), Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oregon (beginning July 2017), South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia (beginning July 2017), Wyoming.
MEE: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine (beginning July 2017), Massachusetts (beginning July 2018), Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Virgin Islands
MPT: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts (beginning July 2018), Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tenessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Virgin Islands.
What is the Cost?
Multistate Essay Exam: The cost of outlines for all MEE-specific subjects (Agency & Partnership, Corporations & LLCs, Secured Transactions, Conflict of Laws, Decedent’s Estates, Trusts, and Family Law) plus ten hours of tutoring plus essay grading for each subject area (approximately 20 essays are assigned total) costs $2,000. You can also pick and choose subjects to cover and we can give you a better idea of pricing if there are only specific ones you are looking for.
Multistate Bar Exam: One subject matter outline (like Real Property, which is tailored to the MBE and MEE) plus two hours of substantive review with a tutor one-on-one, plus essay grading (approximately 4-5 essays are assigned per subject) is $400. So if you wanted MBE review for all seven subjects, it is $2,800. You can also pick and choose the subjects you have the most trouble with.
Multistate Performance Test: Our recommendation of quantity and structure of MPT sessions varies per student. The cost is $400 for a two hour session plus 1-2 MPTs graded with written feedback. Some students choose the option of having MPT feedback plus a thirty minute phone call (which is cheaper at $150). It is $80 for only written feedback on an MPT. Our recommendation depends on your scores and comfort level with the MPT.
Do you offer a study plan?
Yes. We are happy to make you a “birdseye” schedule of the subjects to review. (This is free of charge with tutoring.) Do you offer in-person tutoring for the Uniform Bar Exam?
Yes, we offer in-person tutoring at our office in Birmingham, Michigan. We also offer online tutoring (using Skype, gChat, or phone).
I am looking for some last-minute MEE help. What can you offer me?

We also have an MEE course which meets covers everything and offers essay grading and feedback. We also offer MEE one-sheets, which give you an overview of the highly-tested areas of the MEE in one sheet, front and back. Read more about our MEE one-sheets here.
We also are happy to review any subjects that you are still having trouble with, any questions you have, or any essays or practice MPTs that you write! See this page for additional written feedback options.
